Last month, we learned that Allegiant Air was beginning direct flights from Destin to St. Louis and Cincinnati this summer. The results were so positive that Allegiant Air is now adding direct flights from Destin to four more cities, including Memphis, Knoxville, Oklahoma City and Fort Lauderdale.
This is especially good news for our friends in Memphis, Tennessee. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, Allegiant Air will offer direct flights from Memphis International Airport (MEM) to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) on Mondays and Fridays. The new service will have Memphis beachgoers departing at 10 a.m. and touching down in Destin in an hour and 15 minutes later to relax along our white sandy shores.
Flights from the Knoxville Airport (TYS) to Destin on Fridays and Mondays will take a mere 25 minutes and flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Destin, which run on Thursdays and Sundays, will take 35 minutes. Our friends in Oklahoma City will travel the longest to get to Destin with a 2-hour flights from Oklahoma City Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) offered on Thursdays and Sundays starting May 26, 2016.
Flights between Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport were announced in January of this year and Allegiant Air has increased the frequency of those flights and extended service through mid-October instead of mid-August as originally planned.
With increased access to South Walton and Destin beaches, now is a great time to plan your beach vacation, purchase a second home or visit your friends and family more often.
